Schools and Colleges

School groups are invited to visit the Austin Humane Society for a free 30-minute tour or a guided 90-minute workshop with a suggested donation. Programs are designed to teach students about animal welfare, shelter operations, and compassionate care through hands-on experiences.

We open booking for education programs at select times throughout the year. Once booking opens, requests are accepted on a rolling basis and scheduled until all available program spots are filled.

Suggested Donation: $15 per student
Time: 90 Minutes
Location: AHS Auditorium

Scheduling:
Wednesday or Thursday, 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
Saturdays starting at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, or 3:00 PM
Please note we do not host workshops on other days of the week

Each 90-minute workshop includes:

  1. Behind-the-scenes tour of the Austin Humane Society (15+ minutes)
  2. A service activity or craft (30 minutes)
  3. Adoptable animal meet & greet (30 minutes)

Our staff lead slow, gentle introductions to safely socialize rescue dogs and cats with students. Groups typically meet 1–2 animals per visit, depending on shelter availability.

Event Details:

  • Curriculum designed for K–12 students
  • Groups must maintain 1:8 adult-to-student ratio
  • All participants must complete an AHS waiver
  • Groups may use our outdoor lunch space (30-45 minutes) before or after their program

Additional Options:

  • Free 30-minute tours for groups under 20 students
  • Presentations at your campus for 10–200+ students
  • Schools may provide craft materials for optional large group service projects
  • Limited availability for extended service days or special project requests

We prioritize requests with the capacity to donate, as this directly supports animals within our care. At the same time, it is deeply important to us to provide access to students from all backgrounds.
