Rescue Reading
Individuals ages 3–18+ are invited to read to adoptable cats in our lobby. Readers help cats prepare for their future homes while learning about feline behavior from our staff.

Time: 30-minute sessions
Location: AHS Adoption Lobby
Scheduling:
Tuesday–Thursday, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Excludes major holidays
Readers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the visit.
How It Works
- Schedule your first visit
All new participants begin with a brief orientation (about 5 minutes) covering program guidelines, animal body language, and safety. Offered Wednesday and Thursday. - Read to the cats
After orientation, the remainder of your visit is yours to read and spend time with the cats. - Return Tuesday – Thursday
Once completed, you may schedule future visits freely through our calendar.
What to Expect
- Readers may choose from available cat colony rooms
- Sessions are 30 minutes, with the option to book multiple
- Bring your own books or borrow from our education library
- Adults must stay with children at all times
We ask that all participants treat the cats with kindness and allow them to approach at their own pace. These are some of our most social cats, and your time helps them build confidence with people.
