Animal Surrender Request Form

Thank you for contacting the Austin Humane Society about to surrendering your pet. Please read below for how our intake process works.

We handle all evaluations for intake by appointment only. Depending on the time of year and current demand, please expect a wait time for an appointment. Wait time typically varies between 4-12 weeks. Those needing to surrender multiple animals may need separate appointments. Due to our space and current resources, we are only able to accept friendly, healthy animals, without past or present behavior or medical concerns (unless approved by our veterinarians).

Evaluations are done at the time of the appointment to allow the AHS team to further review the animal’s medical and behavioral history and perform a basic behavior and health evaluation. All animals entering our adoption program must pass this evaluation. If your animal(s) does not pass the evaluation, we will not be able to accept them into our adoption program.

We are a limited-intake facility. This means we are only able to intake new animals if space allows. If you are offered an appointment our staff will contact you the day before your appointment to confirm or reschedule. If a kennel is not available we reserve the right to reschedule the intake appointment to a later date. This allows us to guarantee that proper space, time and resources may be properly allocated to your animal and all animals in our care.

If you feel your animal fits into our requirements and would like to request an appointment with us to evaluate your animal, please fill out and submit the form on this page. If we are able to accept your animal into our adoption program we will respond with a proposed appointment date. If we are unable to accept your animal into our program we will respond with additional resources and alternatives to AHS.

Once a surrender appointment is made, intake is on a day by day basis depending on our space. If we do not have a kennel available for your animal the day before your appointment, your appointment will be canceled and rescheduled.

We do ask for a surrender fee that varies depending on the age and size of your animal(s) that will go towards their care during their stay with us. Our staff will confirm the fees for your appointment when it is scheduled.
